(Allt på engelska)

Joyce Jin is studying Biomedical Engineering/Physics and has a high GPA in advanced natural science subjects. She also has an impressive track record, both academically and in the workplace – both as an employee and a volunteer. Joyce is also very active in rowing, dancing and has a strong interest in law, especially in patent issues. She describes her choice of Lund University in a matter-of-fact and initiated manner, where she plans to conduct research in optical-medical instruments – an area she already has experience in through UCI’s medical research center. Joyce also aims to continue her studies in Europe. As an international student from China, where she previously studied at the University of Beijing, she wants to be part of a global society. She is looking forward to the Swedish and international student life in Lund, something she has been inspired by through conversations with Swedish students. She is eager to immerse herself in Swedish and European culture.

Taylor Le is studying psychology and sociology and is passionate about social welfare and health, especially in childcare. Her professional experience, especially in this area, together with a strong commitment to volunteer work, clearly demonstrates her dedication. In her free time, she competes in swing dancing and runs a small business selling candles.

She is impressed by the Swedish view of social welfare and wants to study the Swedish social and healthcare system up close. She reflects on the situation in the US and sees great opportunities to learn from the values and structure of the Swedish system. She hopes to broaden her perspectives, challenge her own beliefs and build a network of international contacts. Her goal is to become a culturally competent and influential sociologist.

SWEA Orange County Board of Directors, supported by the scholarship committee, believes that both candidates possess unique but complementary qualities. They both share a clear desire to embrace Swedish culture, lifestyle, and way of thinking. Together with Fabian, all are convinced that these students will return to the US with new insights and enthusiasm to represent Sweden with flying colors among the college student population.
