SWEA OC Christmas Fair – English

SWEA’s Christmas Fair was first held in 1979. Today is SWEA , Swedish Women’s Education Association, a global non-profit organization with 6,000 members in about 70 countries around the world and similar Christmas Fairs are held all over the world. SWEA works to promote Swedish culture through scholarships and various events with a Swedish theme and the Christmas Fairs are typically the largest fundraiser.

As the second created SWEA chapter, SWEA OC’s started its Christmas Fair the following year, 1980 and has lasted for all the years since.

The Christmas Fair, or julmarknaden, has something to offer everyone. A large selection of genuine Swedish handicrafts – jewelry, art, toys and Christmas collectibles are for sale here. A beautifully radiant Lucia pageant with members’ children, children from Svenska Skolan OC and other singing swedish teens participating, performs twice during the day, at 12:30pm and 3pm.

Traditional Christmas food and pastries are available to choose from, including our home-brewed, rich mulled wine. Children can say hello to Santa. Both a raffle and a lottery with often very expensive prizes are also offered.

The Christmas Fair is traditionally held on the third weekend in November, exact time and place as well as info on ticket purchases are announced around October. Raffle with a special grand prize.
